Hand Therapy
The comprehensive occupational therapy program at MidAmerica provides our patients customized upper extremity rehabilitation from the hand to the shoulder. Many of our patients will require occupational therapy as an integral part of their treatment plan whether their condition is treated non-operatively or requires surgery. Post-operative occupational therapy is imperative to achieving the best possible results.
To maximize results it is important to have your care provided by individuals whose practice is devoted exclusively to the hand and upper extremity. Our clinicians provide the most advanced treatment available to our patients. They also believe that education is an important part of the rehabilitation process and they will institute strategies to prevent further injury or re-injury.
Many of our therapists have chosen to continue their education and training after obtaining a Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy to become Certified Hand Therapists. This involves years of continuing education, specialized training and testing to be able to expertly address all conditions and injuries of the upper extremity.
MidAmerica’s team of dedicated Hand Therapists provides care in a private, comfortable and friendly environment. Our functionally based hand therapy program provides results-oriented, progressive and injury-specific rehabilitation. Our goal is to maximize functional outcome, and to restore our patient’s normal upper extremity function for all of their activities including work, daily living and recreation in the shortest period of time possible.
MidAmerica’s hand therapy clinics are located onsite at our office locations. This means that both therapists and patients have direct access with their treating physicians during therapy. Therefore, there is instantaneous communication so that questions or concerns can be addressed, splints checked and individualized protocols further developed often resulting in faster progress and better outcomes for our patients. For workers’ compensation patients this often means a much faster return to modified or full duty reducing the overall cost of claims.
